A big thank you
The success of our first tournament was down to a huge amount of generosity,
good will and hard work. We'd like to thank the following for making it all possible:
all the teams who made the day what it was
the Scariff Show Society, for the use of the field
Mountshannon Celtic for the use of their goalposts
Tulla United AFC for the loan of some netting
Scariff Rugby Football Club for the use of their facilities
the 3 Clare League referees who gave their time and skill for all 33 matches
TJ for the use of his marvellous marquee
the Irish Red Cross for their care of the wounded
the Iniscealtra Festival committee for their support
Karen for providing the refreshments
Denise, Rebecca and Danielle for administration on the day
Phil B for shouldering most of the organisational burden and taking care
of the bulk of the practicalities
all the other Mixed Bag players who helped with the setup and clearup
everybody else who helped out
The first name on the shield is: Jakko's Bar
The inaugural Iniscealtra Community Shield, a 5-a-side soccer tournament, took place
in Scariff on Saturday 31st May as part of the 2008
Iniscealtra Festival of Arts, whose theme this year was Community.
Fourteen teams played out a thoroughly enjoyable tournament in bright sunshine
despite the thunderous storms affecting surrounding localities. Indeed the Scariff
Fire Station team had to withdraw due to a lightning strike nearby! Over €800
was raised for the Clare
Branch of the Samaritans - many thanks to their Director, Mary Lynch for
attending the tournament to present the shield to the winners: Jakko's Bar.
